Slideshows
DataCentral's Slideshow feature allows you to combine multiple Power BI report pages into a seamless, automated presentation. This is ideal for digital signage, lobby displays, or command center dashboards where reports need to rotate automatically without user interaction.
1. What is a Slideshow?
A Slideshow is a collection of specific Power BI report pages (from one or multiple reports) that automatically transition after a defined time interval.
Unlike a static PowerPoint export, a DataCentral Slideshow renders the live, interactive Power BI reports, ensuring the data is always up-to-date.
2. Creating a Slideshow
To create a new Slideshow:
- Log in as a Tenant Administrator.
- Navigate to Administration > Slideshows.
- Click Create Slideshow.
- Provide a descriptive name (e.g., "Executive Command Center").
- (Optional) Select a specific Theme or branding to apply to the slideshow wrapper.
3. Adding and Configuring Slides
Once the Slideshow is created, you must add the individual report pages (slides).
- In the Slideshow editor, click Add Slide.
- Select the source Report from the dropdown menu.
- Select the specific Page within that report.
- Set the Duration (in seconds) for how long this slide should be displayed before transitioning to the next.
- Click Save Slide.
- Repeat this process for all desired pages.
You can drag and drop the slides in the editor to reorder them.
4. Applying Filters and Bookmarks
To make Slideshows truly powerful, you can apply specific filters or bookmarks to individual slides.
For example, you could add the same "Global Sales" report page three times, but apply a different regional filter (Americas, EMEA, APAC) to each slide.
- Edit a slide in your Slideshow.
- In the Filters section, define the specific data slice you want to apply (e.g.,
Region eq 'EMEA'). - Alternatively, if the report has predefined Bookmarks, select the desired Bookmark from the dropdown.
5. Sharing and Displaying a Slideshow
Slideshows are typically displayed on unattended screens. To facilitate this, DataCentral uses Report Keys (secure, unique URLs) to grant access without requiring a manual login.
- Once your Slideshow is complete, click the Generate Key or Share button.
- The system will provide a unique URL (e.g.,
https://yourtenant.datacentral.ai/slideshow/xyz123). - Open this URL on the target display device (e.g., a smart TV browser or a mini-PC connected to a monitor).
- The Slideshow will load and begin rotating automatically.
Security Note: Anyone with the Slideshow URL can view the live data. Treat these URLs securely and revoke them in the Administration portal if a display device is compromised or repurposed.
